This idea came from a couple of Chicas who like to run and participate in local 5ks.

Las Chicas Latinas de Sacramento aim to promote a healthy lifestyle and always encourage being active – here’s a way to get healthy and active with your fellow Chicas members!!!

Las Chicas are starting a “Latina Running Group.” We have a few members who are very experienced in running and training, and they are ready to teach and lead the Chicas. Whether you are there to improve your health, learn how to run properly, have plans of participating in local runs, 5ks, or even have marathon goals — join us!

The Latina Running group will cater to inexperienced and beginning runners – ALL LEVELS WELCOMED!!!

Chicas, please let us know: how often you’d like to meet (once a month, once a week), the days and times that work for you, and locations. Email us at: info@chicaslatinasdesacramento.org

Practique español con las Chicas! Once a month las Chicas Latinas de Sacramento get together to practice the Spanish Language at “Cafe con las Chicas” – tonight we’re learning the nursery rhymes and children songs below.

Native speakers and learners are both invited to attend, as we all are there to help each other.

Nursery Rhymes en Español

Cinco elefantitos

Juego de dedos – (Spanish)

Cinco elefantitos, éste se cayó,

Cuatro elefantitos, éste se perdió,

Tres elefantitos, éste se enfermó,

Dos elefantitos, éste se murió.

Ahora queda uno, uno se quedó,

Y este elefantito, ¡me lo llevo yo!

¡Me lo llevo yo!

Five Little Elephants

Finger Play – (English)

Five little elephants, this one fell down,

Four little elephants, this one lost its way,

Three little elephants, this one got sick,

Two little elephants, this one passed away.

Now one is left, one did stay,

And this little elephant, I’ll take it away!

I’ll take it away!

A la puerta del cielo

Canción infantil – (Spanish)

A la puerta del cielo

Venden zapatos

Para los angelitos

Que andan descalzos

Duérmete niño

Duérmete niño

Duérmete niño

Arrú arrú

A los niños que duermen

Dios los bendice

A las madres que velan

Dios las asiste

Duérmete niño

Duérmete niño

Duérmete niño

Arrú arrú

At the Gates of Heaven

Lullaby – (English)

At the gates of heaven,

They sell shoes

For the little angels

That go barefoot.

Sleep baby,

Sleep baby,

Sleep baby,

Hush-a-bye now.

The children who sleep,

God bless them.

The mothers who watch,

God helps them.

Sleep baby,

Sleep baby,

Sleep baby,

Hush-a-bye now.

La pequeña araña

Canción infantil – (Spanish)

La pequeña araña

subió, subió, subió

vino la lluvia

y se la llevó.

Salió el sol

y todo lo secó

y la pequeña araña

subió, subió, subió.

The Little Spider

Children’s Song – (English)

The little spider,

Climbed up, climbed up, climbed up,

Down came the rain,

And washed the spider out.

Out came the sun,

And dried it all up,

And the little spider,

Climbed up, climbed up, climbed up.

Once a month las Chicas Latinas de Sacramento members volunteer their time and donate a healthy lunch to los niños at the Crisis Nursery Center!

This month we provided a healthy burrito bar, with lots of nutritional foods to choose from. The kids had a blast creating their own burritos and trying news foods! Thank you to California Food Literacy Center for always giving us great menu ideas.

“The Sacramento Children’s Home operates Sacramento’s only Crisis Nursery Program. Our mission is to prevent child abuse and neglect by providing support to families at times of crisis. The Sacramento Crisis Nursery Program is a family strengthening program where families can bring their children, newborn through age 5 for emergency child care or overnight care during stressful or difficult times.” Learn more: Sacramento Crisis Nursery

Thank you,
