LOCAL LEADER POISED TO WIN $25,000 GRANT FOR A COMMUNITY PROJECT

Angela Rosas of Chicas Latinas de Sacramento is in the running to become the Coors Light 2014 Líder of the Year

SACRAMENTO, CA (September 16, 2014) –  Angela Rosas, CEO & Founder of Chicas Latinas de Sacramento, has been selected as one of 12 Coors Light Líderes for her exceptional contributions to the Latino community. The public can visit www.coorslightlideres.com now through October 30 to vote for Angela Rosas. If she is chosen as the Coors Light Líder of the Year, Chicas Latinas de Sacramento will receive a $25,000 grant to develop and implement a community leadership program in partnership with Coors Light.

“I am honored to be chosen for this year’s Coors Light Líderes program,” said Angela Rosas, founder of Chicas Latinas de Sacramento. “Coors Light has made a commitment to the Hispanic community by investing in emerging Latino leadership, and I am grateful for the opportunity to win a grant for Chicas Latinas de Sacramento. This grant will allow us to serve our community in a way we have yet been able to. I hope the public votes for me in support of our nonprofit’s mission, dedicated members, and our future of continued service in the Sacramento community.”

Angela Rosas was chosen as one of the 2014 Coors Light Líderes because of her dedicated and continued leadership in the Sacramento community. Her philanthropic journey started in her youth and has since inspired a culture of volunteerism and civic engagement by founding Chicas Latinas de Sacramento in 2009, a volunteer cultivation nonprofit which provides local Latinas with an outlet to give in their community, explore their culture, and become leaders in their own right; all while providing local organizations which serve the local latino population with volunteer support.

“Coors Light has a long history of supporting the communities we impact, and we are proud to highlight and reward emerging Latino leaders who are making a difference,” said Alberto Senior, director, community commerce and partnerships for MillerCoors. “All 12 Líderes exemplify determination and commitment, not only in their professional careers, but in helping others.”

If chosen as the Coors Light 2014 Líder of the Year, Angela Rosas and Chicas Latinas de Sacramento will use the $25,000 grant to implement a youth leadership program to inspire a new generation of philanthropy, civic engagement and leadership.

“Philanthropy is the most accessible doorway to awareness, leadership, action, and ultimately change,” said Rosas. “The sooner, and younger, a culture of Latino volunteerism is introduced — the sooner we’ll be able to see the benefits Latino leadership can bring to our community.”

Since 2006, the Coors Light Líderes program has raised awareness and highlighted the achievements of national and local leaders within the Hispanic community. The program offers up-and-coming Latino professionals leadership tools, counsel and networking opportunities. Chicas Latinas de Sacramento is excited to announce our shoe-drive for a Sacramento area elementary school!

Shoe Drive 2

We are sponsoring and providing shoes to the children at Hagginwood Elementary School. The school includes grades K-6 and has approximately 500 students — of which 96% receive reduced lunch prices and are considered “socio-economically disadvantaged” or at/below poverty level.

When we asked staff what the students are most in need of when starting the new school year, we were simply told, “shoes.” Shoes that fit and shoes in working condition… free of holes and torn soles. Back-to-school shoes, a basic need to most, are a luxury item to these children.

For that reason, Chicas Latinas members are hosting a shoe-drive and are asking the community to join us for “Starting off on the Right Foot,” as we rally together in an effort to provide shoes for these students as they enter into the new school year. Shoes must be new and should fit 5-12 year old students, boys and girls.

The shoe collection dates will run from August 4 thru September 18 — ending with a free #Network4Cause event for the school the evening of Sept. 18, for community members, participants, and donors!

Please share this event and consider asking your colleagues, friends, and family to donate A pair of shoes… I have 100% confidence we can collect 500 pairs of shoes, with your help! (No need to RSVP)
