Holiday Care Packages for Sacramento Homeless – Join Chicas Latinas!

On Dec. 25th Chicas Latinas de Sacramento will be distributing food, clothing, and toiletries to the homeless with C.A.F.F.E. … as well as a gift to open on Christmas Day! 

We’re asking Chicas Latinas members and the Sacramento community to donate a (or a few) Holiday Care Packages to those who are less fortunate.

How to help: 

  • Donate a Holiday Care Package (or a few!)
  • Donate items we can add to Holiday Care Packages
  • Donate holiday wrapping paper and supplies

*Drop-off donations between December 12-14 at Sol Collective! 

Chicas Latinas de Sacramento volunteers will be at Sol Collective on 12/14 from 12-4pm to wrap your Holiday Care Package. We will give collected packages to the homeless on Dec. 25th at Cesar Chavez Park at 8am (volunteers are welcomed to join us).

Be sure to stick around at Sol Collective on December 14th, from 12-6pm they’ll have a live DJ, treats, and a Holiday mercado sale!!! Come hangout!

This will be a low-key Friday evening event. Chicas Latinas’ Almuerzo Cultural! Una Celebración de la Comunidad, Sunday brunch event at Mayahuel has came and gone… and it was a great success!!!

Thank you to everyone who came out in support of the Chicas Latinas de Sacramento, volunteered their time, donated items to our silent auction, and donated entertainment. The event would not have been a success without you. More importantly, THIS organization wouldn’t be here without you.

Special thanks to Mayahuel in downtown Sacramento for allowing us to have this fantastic celebration in their event space, Dinorah Curkendall for donating her lovely musical talents and performing for our guests (she stole the show, hands down), Folklorico IMBA for donating wonderful dance performances highlighting the different regions of Mexico, and Pete Ochoa for donating his DJ services and keeping the party going… ALL DAY LONG!

Introducing… Chicas Latinas y Casa de Español’s NEW Spanish Conversation Group in Sacramento! Community members welcomed, learn more:

¡Tacos, cerveza y español! What could be better on a Tuesday afternoon than winding down with others as in love with the Spanish language and Latino cultures as you are? Join Casa de Español and local nonprofit Chicas Latinas de Sacramento, as we merge our Spanish language practice groups in an effort to strengthen our conversational Spanish and the community!

We’ll be hosting activities every second Tuesday of the month at Jarritos Mexican Restaurant. ¡Eat, drink and be merry, while you practice your Spanish skills! All language levels are welcome!

Our next event will be on October 8th at 6:30pm, register via Eventbrite to join us! https://www.eventbrite.com/event/8096802755 – the community is welcomed to join us, just RSVP so we know you’re coming!

Scroll down to view pictures from our first Spanish Language Conversation group, held on 9/10. Complete with fresh vegetables, futbol, tacos, y amig@s! All levels were present, from beginners and advance learners, to fluent native speakers. It was an enjoyable evening as we helped one-another learn and practice the Spanish language.

Here is what you need to know about Almuerzo Cultural! Una Celebración de la Comunidad, Sunday brunch event at Mayahuel on Sept. 8th.

✧ The event is from 11-4pm – and will be a casual brunch event. Come WHEN YOU CAN and bring your family, we’ll be there all afternoon. No need to stress out about the start time! (Last seating is at 3pm)

✧ Your ticket includes a great Mexican brunch buffet / non-alcoholic beverages (agua frescas and coffee) as well as entertainment!

Sacramento Latina Philanthropic Organization Holds Fundraiser Brunch Event at Mayahuel

Chicas Latinas de Sacramento celebrates nonprofit 501(c)(3) filing with a cultural brunch kick-off fundraiser at Mayahuel Resturant in Downtown Sacramento on Sept. 8,2013.

SACRAMENTO, CA – Chicas Latinas de Sacramento will be formally celebrating the filing of their federal nonprofit application with a wonderful Sunday Brunch Fundraiser in Downtown Sacramento, complete with specialty Mexican dishes and cocktails provided by Mayahuel, dance performances by Folklórico Imba de Sacramento, festive music, great silent auction items, and more! Almuerzo Cultural! Una Celebración de la Comunidad will be held at Mayahuel Tequila Museo, Restaurant, and Bar, on September 8, 2013 from 11am – 2pm, serving until 4pm.

Chicas Latinas de Sacramento, founded in 2009 as a social group, is a cultural organization which focuses on encouraging Latinas to volunteer and be leaders in the Sacramento Community. They have worked regularly in the community providing assistance to numerous organizations such as WEAVE Inc., SAEHC, Sacramento Crisis Nursery Center, Rebuilding Together Sacramento, Festival de la Familia, and more! With over 190 members, nearly five years of service, and countless new community programs, Chicas Latinas de Sacramento has a mission to “make a positive impact in both the Latin and Sacramento community by improving, connecting and embracing our culture and the community in which we call our home. (By… giving back to our community, utilizing our people and our culture to educate, inspire, and lead.)”

All community members are invited to celebrate the past, present, and future of Latino culture in Sacramento with the flavors, traditions and colors of Mexico. The Chicas Latinas de Sacramento is proud to be volunteering at the upcoming education fair at Sacramento State on Saturday, August 24th! The event will take place in the Student Union.

It is a full day of education fun, for K-12 families, with information provided in both English and Spanish! This family friendly event will have college education information, workshops (geared towards tackling issues many Latino families face), activities, entertainment, food-trucks, a reading room for los niños, and even a book giveaway!

This is a FREE event! (Even campus parking will be free that day).

Bring your family, learn about the path to college, and let’s make sure our next generation is an educated generation! Help spread the word:

Almuerzo Cultural! Una Celebración de la Comunidad, Sunday brunch event, will be held at Mayahuel in Downtown Sacramento, a beautiful Mexican restaurant, bar, and tequila museum – a truly delicious cultural experience.

All community members are invited! Bring your family, friends, colleagues, and enjoy the flavors, traditions and colors of Mexico.

Your event ticket includes an amazing Mexican brunch, performances by local baile folklorico groups, great silent auction items (including beautiful art by local Latina artists), music, games for the kids, and more!!! Come when you can, we’ll be there all afternoon.
