Welcome 2019!

This is an exciting year for Chicas Latinas de Sacramento, because we turn 10 years old in April!!! (That’s right, our lil’ ol’ Latina nonprofit organization has made it to double digits.)

To celebrate, we’re doing a call for committee members. We have a powerful leadership team who, year after year, organizes amazing community events, volunteer teams and activities for Sacramento ~ and as we enter into our next decade it’s time to invite new people and ideas to join the giving fun. We believe in the power of Latina leadership, and providing a path to leadership roles.

do all things with love

2019 At A Glance:

  • Sacramento Crisis Nursery Volunteer Events (next one is 2/2/2019… one spot left!)
  • Chicas Latinas de Sacramento’s 10 Year Anniversary Part-ay (help us plan!)
  • Chicas Latinas’ Annual Scholarship Awards and Fundraiser Events (we have some exciting fundraising events in the works)
  • Chicas Latinas’ Annual “Starting Off on the Right Foot” Shoe Drive (we love this event, and know you will too!)
  • YOUR IDEAS! (seriously, if we build it… they will come.)

Aside from giving in the community, being part of something inspiring and powerful, and learning how to create movements, committee members become part of the Chicas Latinas family ~ and have access to Latina mentorship, support, and leadership! Joining our planning committee is an opportunity to learn, grow, network, and add some serious sparkle to any resume.

Curious? Send us an email committees@chicaslatinasdesacramento.org and/or join us at our next meeting on Monday February 11, 2019.

High School and College students encouraged to join!

Thank you Sacramento for a 2017 full of support and encouragement. Our members took it “slow” this year in order to strengthen and update our foundation, vision, and goals. However, 2017 proved to be anything but slow for our members, volunteers, and community!

Aside from our many regular volunteer and drive activities this year, Chicas Latinas de Sacramento launched our annual Scholarship Awards. We awarded a deserving young Latina in our community with funds to use towards her college education.

19942875_10154604955761821_2230628514743057371_o

We also launched a laptop drive. With your donations we provided eight refurbished laptops to local middle school students in need.

10473806_10152439014211821_2897667491351908017_nChicas Latinas de Sacramento is excited to announce our 2nd Annual Back to SchoolDrive, “Starting Off on the Right Foot” benefiting Woodbine Elementary School in South Sacramento.

Last year we sponsored Hagginwood Elementary School and collected over 300 shoe donations (closing in at 500 after monetary donations) for their students in need — and we need YOUR HELP in accomplishing our goal of 700 pairs in 2015.

The shoe-drive idea is simple… new school year, new shoes! Shoes that fit and are in working condition, free of holes and torn soles. Back-to-school shoes, basic for most, but often a luxury item to many families and children in socio-economically disadvantaged communities.

Let’s rally together in an effort to provide shoes for these students as they enter into the new school year.  Please consider sharing our event, donating, and helping us reach our goal. ✨A lot of area stores are offering great deals for back-to-school shopping. We’ve found NEW shoes as inexpensive as $7! You can also donate directly to the drive at http://bit.ly/ChicasShoeDrive2015 (100% of funds raised will be used to purchase shoes).

Anyone can help by help by spreading the word… Invite, Invite, Invite on Facebook: “Starting Off on the Right Foot” Shoe Drive for Woodbine Elementary 👬👭

Fine print: Shoes should fit 5-12 year old students, boys and girls. Shoes MUST BE NEW. (Let’s give these kids something special that they’ll truly remember ~ a shiny new pair of kicks!) It’s not “technically” part of the drive, but we’ll also accept new socks. We were shocked last year by how many kids came to us without having socks on their feet.

The shoe collection dates will run from July 13 thru August 28 — ending with a free event for community members, participants, and donors! (TBA)

11196358_10152790775516821_4054605469764219751_nWe’re going to take advantage of this #TBT (throwback Thursday) to share pictures from a community project Chicas Latinas de Sacramento volunteered at, Rebuilding Together Sacramento!

Chicas Latinas members have been SO busy in the community these last few months that we’ve had a hard time catching up with ourselves. (Shameless plug, join our marketing team!)

Thank you to our amazing volunteers who helped at Rebuild Day on April 25. Our volunteers helped rebuild a home and made a huge difference in the lives of a single mother and her six children in Sacramento.

The Mission of Rebuilding Together is to bring volunteers and communities together to improve the homes and lives of low-income homeowners in need. Learn more: http://rebuildingtogethersacramento.org/about-us/mission/

There is an old saying: “You can’t really understand another person’s experience until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.” Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® asks men to literally walk one mile in women’s high-heeled shoes. It’s not easy walking in these shoes, but it’s fun and it gets the community to talk about something that’s really difficult to talk about: gender relations and sexualized violence against women.

Walk a Mile

On Sunday, May 3 the men of Chicas Latinas de Sacramento will make a statement not just locally but to the world when we come together for the 5th Annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes.

This is the first year the Chicas will have a team representing us!! We can’t achieve this without YOU. Register today and recruit the men in your family, your work, your gym, your church. You get the idea, we are going to go big on May 3 and want you to be part of the record setting and lifesaving day.

  • Registration is $40 per man which includes: Shoes, T-Shirt, Swag Bag, and Festival Access
  • To register click on the link below and “Register for Walk a Mile”
